OUR STORY

After traveling half way around the world from his hometown of Brisbane, Australia, Russ started his construction career working for Flanders Installations on a new Paper Mill in Powell River, British Colombia. His travels continued and in 1957 he joined the Lyford Cay Development Company developing 450 acres of raw land for the highly exclusive Lyford Cay gated community on the western shore of New Providence Island, Bahamas. There over a period of 3 years he gained experience in all aspects of land development including construction of a new marina, digging canals, developing a golf course, building roads, installing utilities, building large homes and a clubhouse. roads, installing utilities, building large homes and a clubhouse. It was during his time in the Bahamas Russ met his wife Margrith Lübke, who was also pursuing a career working far from her hometown, Zürich, Switzerland. When Russ and Margrith settled in the early 1960’s to Miami, Russ worked for Weber Constructors on Army Corps of Engineers’ projects involving digging new canals, constructing Flood Control Structures and building bridges. In 1971, the young McNamara’s decided that it was time for them them to begin their own company and Anzac Contractors, Inc was incorporated. Being a proud native of Australia, Russ chose the name “Anzac”, which is an acronym for “Australia New Zealand Army Corp”.

Russ’ son, Steven R. McNamara, was always interested in construction and grew up working for Anzac in the summers and vacation times during high school and college. After attending the University of Florida, in 1983, Steve joined Anzac as an Estimator and Project Manager. Around the same time Anzac began to actively pursue Bridge & Highway Construction projects for the Florida Department of Transportation, Miami-Dade County Public Works Department, Broward County Highway Construction & Engineering Division, South Florida Water Management, Army Corps of Engineers as well as many other local Cities, Public Agencies and Private Owners & Developers. Steve became Vice President in 1985 and President of the company in 2007. Steve’s sister, Vivien Baltodano, joined the ANZAC team in 1993 as its Controller. Vivien graduated with a Master’s in Accounting from Florida International University and brought added support in the financial aspects and day to day operations.

Since the inception, Anzac has been continuously engaged in Civil and Highway/Heavy Construction in the South Florida area. In the early years the company was primarily involved in Water & Sewer Plant Construction which then led into Water & Sewer Pump Stations. Anzac developed a proprietary design on a Sewer Pump Station that for many years was one of only two designs approved for use in new construction by the Miami-Dade County Water & Sewer Authority Department. Since the early 1980’s Anzac has focused primarily on all aspects of Bridge and Heavy Construction.

The management team has over 180 years of combined experience in bridge construction, water & sewer plant construction, sanitary & storm sewer pump stations, seawall & ship berth construction, marine construction, flood control structures, cofferdam & tremie seal installations, pile driving and drilled shaft foundations, excavation, drainage & roadwork, heavy rigging and erection projects, industrial electrical work and industrial painting.
